County Leaders, Kradjian Cut Ribbon on New Lobby at DSS

Binghamton, NY – Broome County Executive Debbie Preston joined Commissioner of Social Services Art Johnson and Ron Kradjian of Kradjian Enterprises to cut the ribbon on the newly renovated lobby at the Department of Social Services building on Main Street in Binghamton.

“We want to thank Kradjian Enterprises for allowing us to make several necessary changes to the building’s lobby,” says Broome County Executive Debbie Preston.  “Not only will these changes make the space more welcoming but also will increase safety for those coming to Social Services.”

The project, which took about 13 weeks, increased the size of the waiting room, put in new seating for customers as well as a brand new floor.

New walk-in counters were installed and a new security office was built.

The metal detector at the front entrance was moved back, allowing more customers to enter the building as well as preventing lines from forming outside of the building.

“The new waiting room is more welcoming and secure,” says Commissioner of Social Services Art Johnson.  “We had outgrown the previous space and want to thank everyone involved for helping to make the experience of people coming to Social Services a more pleasant one.”

The original waiting room was designed approximately 20 years ago, when DSS processed approximately 400 monthly public assistance applications.

Today, about 1300 new applicants are processed each month.

“We understood the need of the County’s Department of Social Services and were glad to work with them to accomplish their goal of making the lobby more welcoming and secure,” says Ron Kradjian of Kradjian Enterprises.  “The Department of Social Services has been a good tenant and we hope this strong partnership will continue.”

The cost of the renovation project was paid for by Kradjian Enterprises.
