Sean Britton Named New Director of Public Health
Binghamton, NY – Broome County Executive Debbie Preston is pleased to announce that Sean Britton has been approved as the new Director of Public Health for the Broome County Health Department.
Britton replaces Claudia Edwards, who will retire at the end of the month.
His first official day is Saturday, April 30th.
“Sean brings a great deal of knowledge to the position,” says Broome County Executive Debbie Preston. “Working with him over the past couple of years, you can see the passion he has for improving the health and safety of Broome County.”
“I’d like to thank the County Executive and the Legislature for this opportunity,” says Britton. “We are fortunate to have an extremely talented cadre of professionals at the Broome County Health Department and I look forward to the service we will continue to provide to our community.”
Britton joined the Broome County Health Department in August of 2013 as the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Coordinator and has served as Deputy Director of Public Health since July 2015.
In his work with the health department he has provided administrative oversight of the divisions of environmental health and clinic services.
Britton currently holds a national certification in public health, as a paramedic and as an emergency manager.
He is an adjunct faculty member for the Department of Criminal Justice & Emergency Services at SUNY Broome.
Prior to joining the health department, Britton was the Program Coordinator for Emergency & Trauma Services at UHS Hospitals and a Paramedic at Superior Ambulance Service.
Edwards is retiring after 25 years of service to Broome County.
“We wish Claudia the best in her retirement and in the next chapter of her life,” says Preston. “She did a great deal for our community and we are eternally grateful for that. She will be definitely be missed.”
